I graduated from Loughborough University with an MEng in Chemical Engineering in 2020 and was fortunate enough to get a place on the Perenco Graduate Programme from 2020-2023.
Whilst on the Programme, I spent three year-long placements working in the Offshore Operations Support team, Bacton Gas Terminal and finally the Process Safety Team.
Throughout the Graduate Scheme, Perenco supports varied training opportunities to encourage and enable you to develop the technical engineering skills you gained at university.
The Programme also includes opportunities to get involved with work both offshore and onshore, allowing you to see how your technical skills relate to real-world applications. The breadth of rotations across the business and depth of understanding you develop alongside varied experiences give you the ideal foundation to work towards chartership and meet your future career goals.
The best part of a job with Perenco has to be the huge range of work you are not only able to get involved with, but also take significant amounts of responsibility for very early in your career, with the senior Engineers providing guidance along the way! This experience has been invaluable in my current role where I have returned to the Operations Support team as a Process Engineer, working on supporting day-to-day activities on offshore assets alongside small-scale project work. My favourite part of the Process Engineering role has to be the offshore visits, where you can see how the work you are doing has a direct, real-world impact.
The advice I would give to applicants wanting to join Perenco is don’t be afraid to get stuck in and try to get involved in as much as possible during the first few years, as the experience you gain will be hugely beneficial as you progress further in your career!
