Renewable Energy

Perenco is investing in renewable energy sources and forestation programmes, as well as developing a carbon capture project in the North Sea. The developing world still needs oil and gas, which is where we fit in. We believe there’s still value in the resources that already exist.

Reducing our Impact

We are also committed to supporting the global effort to reduce our emissions and limit the effects of climate change. One of the ways we are doing our part is by building gas networks across our fields. Mature and marginal fields are more complex to operate due to the small volumes of gas they still hold, which is often spread over long distances.

Since 2006 we've been building massive gas networks across our fields, ultimately bringing all the gas together in one place. It then goes to feed local industry and power plants with cheaper and lower carbon fuel, reducing our emissions and contributing to our hosts' climate change goals. We also aim to control the effects we may have on the environment and biodiversity surrounding our fields.

Climate Change

“We look at climate change through the Perenco lens, with the Perenco philosophy. There’s no one-size-fits-all solution. We look at the problem holistically as we support development where we operate.”

Denis Clerc-Renaud, Power & Renewables Manager

Perenco is helping countries fulfil their climate change pledges. We are working hand in hand with them as they balance energy and economic development needs with their climate change objectives. Practically, we have supported the switch from fuel to gas for many power plants in Cameroon, Chad and Gabon, improving the carbon footprint of those countries.

Our aim is to reduce the scope of all our CO2 emissions. We record and disclose all our carbon emissions to the relevant authorities in each country we operate in with a plan to reduce them over years.

Our Commitments

Decarbonise our production process

The implementation of our 2030 Climate and Energy Transition plan requires collaboration among various disciplines across the Group, all working towards a shared decarbonisation objective. The plan’s roadmap encompasses 150 projects, including:

Well Shut Ins

Review of high gas to oil ratio (GOR) wells and shut ins when acceptable.

Venting Reduction & Vapour Recovery

Capturing of vented or flared gas.

Subsurface Gas Storage

Rerouting of flared gas into safe underground reservoirs.

Electrification

Replacing higher emission-intensive energy sources with electricity.

Renewable Energy

Replacing higher emission-intensive energy sources with renewable energy.

Production Rationalisation & Energy Efficiency

Simplifying and improving power generation.

Sustainability Reports

Our sustainability report reflects our Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) commitments and outlines our roadmap for the future.

The report is supported by our global Sustainability strategy and governance, a detailed action plan and a set of established key performance indicators (KPIs) and quantifiable targets to monitor its implementation.
