What does a day/week in your role look like?

A day/week in my role can look different every week. As I approach my first month with Tarmac, I have been spending time with my team and line manager, attending meetings and training sessions. I have learnt how to run several reports which will soon become a weekly part of my job. I can’t wait to see what the rest of my role entails!

What do you enjoy the most about your role?

The best thing about my role is my team and my supportive line manager. They are always happy and eager to teach me about Tarmac, their roles and anything else I may need to know to be successful. I also enjoy the learning and development opportunities Tarmac provides such as the Core Skill graduate programme.

This is a personal development progamme that will allow me to network with other graduates and complete modules to learn more about myself and how to have a successful career.

What do you like about working for Tarmac?

I enjoy the travel that comes with my role. For example, I have already been able to go to multiple offices around the UK such as up North at our Birtley site, and multiple sites in the Midlands including Quorn House, The Hub, and Wolverhampton office. I have found that there is a lot of exposure at Tarmac as within my first month I have met a few senior leaders and have been able to introduce myself. I have enjoyed networking with people at all levels and learning about their roles and how I will work with them. I also enjoy the flexibility that comes with working at Tarmac. I feel like they are focused on flexible work life which is important especially when travelling to offices that I live far away from.

What advice would you give to other young people about Early Careers?

My advice would be to make the most of the early careers team. They are always there to help you and offer any advice if you need it or are feeling lost. Ask as many questions as you can! It will only help your development.

When searching for roles to start your career, utilize advertising platforms. I would also recommend keeping a note of when deadlines close so you can keep on top of your applications. Make sure you are prepared for your interview and do as much as possible to research the company in order to smash the interview!
