RAF Engineering has partnering agreements with several Professional Engineering Institutions that bring about a number of benefits, to encourage uptake and increase the level of recognised professionalisation of our engineering personnel, as part of the Engineering Capability Strategy.
Become a Chartered Engineer with the RAF.
RAF Engineering has also established streamlined registration application processes with several of these Institutions (IMechE, RAeS, IET and hope to soon have one in place with BCS), where career pathways have been mapped to the Engineering Council UK Specification. In some cases these allow personnel to apply directly for Eng/ICT Tech, Incorporated, or Chartered Engineer at given career breakpoints without need to complete the full civilian route. All of the schemes offer a greater level of support to ensure the complex nature and language used in many military roles is effectively communicated and understood by the institutions.
In monetary terms, RAF Engineering allows individuals to claim back their annual subscription fees for those who hold membership with an Engineering Institution. We also have central payments schemes with some of the larger Engineering Institutions that allow the RAF to be directly invoiced for this payment.
RAF Engineering also has a unique scheme called the Engineering Professional Registration Award. This allows individual’s to benefit from a one off payment of up to £5,000 in one, or 2 instalments, dependant on the individual’s rank and professional registration level.
Finally the co-operation between the Professional Engineering Institutions and RAF Engineering allows us to offer a significant amount of professional development opportunities, registration mentoring, and opportunities to engage in this activity alongside individuals primary roles.
