Job description
As an Electromechanical Technical Engineer you will join the EN-AA-CSE team, which forms part of our Engineering Department (EN) to work on the Personnel Safety System Consolidation (PSS-CONS) whose scope is to refurbish the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) Personnel Safety Systems, reaching their end-of-life after 20 years of continuous operation.
You will support the project management and engineering team on the phases of construction, assembly and on-site installation and commissioning of the replacement of the Automatic Gas and Oxygen Deficiency (ODH) Detection Systems in the LHC which are essential to personnel safety and asset protection.
They monitor constantly the atmosphere of the premises presenting a risk of flammable and/or toxic gas, and/or low levels of oxygen (cryogenics leak) and trigger safety actions. They will include a wide range of components such as gas/ODH detectors and detection centrals, flashing lights, cabling and optical fibres.
The role includes technical and organizational tasks:
Supervising the construction and assembly phases of equipment manufacture, including the production of prototypes
Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) on the manufacturer premises
Supervising the installation and commissioning phases
Report non-conformities and follow their clearance
Developing test procedures
Prepare guidelines for the electromechanical installation of gas detection systems
Ensure that work completed meets the specifications, guidelines and planning
Ensure and enforce safety on work-site
Design of mechanical components to support gas detection equipment
Collaborate to integrate all systems in CERN 3D models
Participation to project installation and execution planning meetings

Skills and/or knowledge
Excellent team-working attitude
A previous professional experience on production, testing and commissioning
A previous professional experience in the Safety Systems domain could be considered an asset
Fluent (or a good level) in French, the ability to work in English would be an advantage
Eligibility criteria:
You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
You have a professional background in Electrical or Electronics Engineering (or a related field) and have either:
a Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience;
or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.
You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
This position requires:
Work during nights, Sundays and official holidays.
Work in Radiation Areas.
Interventions in underground installations.
A valid driving licence.
Work during nights, Sundays and official holidays, when required by the needs of the Organization.

A monthly stipend ranging between 6,212 and 6,828 Swiss Francs per month (net of tax).
