Apprentice Quantity Surveyor (Civil Engineering)

As GRAHAM continues to grow, we’re looking for an enthusiastic Apprentice Quantity Surveyor to join our team in Cardiff. This is a fantastic opportunity to kick-start your career, gaining hands-on project experience while working alongside an experienced Site Management team. Alongside your role, you’ll complete your studies on a day or block release basis at college or university.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with re-measurements on site for labour-only and sub-contract payments.
  • Attending Sub-contract pre-appointment meetings;
  • Sub-contract management including the checking and processing of labour-only and sub-contract payments.
  • Assisting in the preparation of interim valuations.
  • Assisting in the preparation of monthly financial reports.
  • Preparation and issuing of sub-contract documentation to sub-contractors.
  • Maintaining live costs of selected works.
  • Liaising with Engineers for records of labour, plant & materials.
  • Preparing take-offs for potential schemes & for the Estimating Department.

This job description is intended to give the post holder an appreciation of the role envisaged for the Apprentice Quantity Surveyor (Civils) and the range of duties to be undertaken.

It does not attempt to detail every activity. Specific tasks and objectives will be agreed with the post holder at regular intervals.

Technical Competencies

Essential

  • Demonstrate a strong desire for the role
  • Demonstrate an ability to work on own initiative.
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills and flexibility in working locations
  • Minimum 4 GCSE’s or equivalent at C level or above, minimum B in Maths/English. Under the new grading system for GCSE’s this equates to a grade 5 at C level and grade 6 at B level.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of the Construction Industry
  • Experience within the Construction Industry
