This opportunity is designed for graduates who have completed their studies and are ready to begin their CGI journey in January 2027. If you’re still at university, we’d love you to explore our other graduate opportunities and find the intake that best matches your graduation date.

As a Cloud Engineer Graduate in our Space, Defence & Intelligence business unit, you’ll help build, operate and improve secure cloud platforms that support services of national importance. You’ll work with experienced specialists across cloud, infrastructure, networking and security, developing practical skills while contributing to projects that protect national interests and deliver intelligence solutions that matter.

From your first day, you’ll be trusted to take responsibility, solve problems and contribute ideas. You’ll receive the support and development needed to build your cloud engineering expertise and define the direction of your career.

Your future duties and responsibilities:

In this role, you’ll help develop and support secure, reliable cloud environments for projects that keep the UK and its global partners secure. You’ll combine cloud technology with infrastructure, networking and automation skills to help deliver resilient services.

You may:

  • Build cloud environments: Help design, configure and maintain secure, scalable cloud infrastructure for live projects.
  • Support systems and platforms: Work with operating systems, virtualisation, networking and platform services that underpin critical applications.
  • Automate technical processes: Use scripting and automation to make the deployment, configuration and management of cloud services more efficient and reliable.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot: Investigate technical issues, support service availability and help improve the performance and resilience of cloud environments.
  • Apply security controls: Follow established processes and contribute to the secure configuration and operation of systems handling sensitive information.
  • Collaborate across disciplines: Work with cloud engineers, software developers, infrastructure specialists, security teams and client stakeholders to deliver effective solutions.
  • Innovate alongside other graduates: Take part in early careers initiatives that go beyond your day-to-day role.

Every contribution you make will help deliver outcomes with lasting impact.

Locations

This role is based in Belfast and starts in January 2027.

As CGI is a consultancy, you may be required to work in different locations, so flexibility and a willingness to travel are key.

Required qualifications to be successful in this role:

We’re seeking an ambitious graduate who is curious about cloud technology and motivated by the challenge of building secure, reliable services. You’ll bring a practical approach to problem-solving, strong attention to detail and the adaptability needed to work across different technologies and project environments.

Due to the sensitive nature of projects within the Space, Defence & Intelligence sector, candidates must meet security-clearance requirements. Applicants must typically have 5–10 years of continuous residency in the UK and be a UK national holding only a UK passport.

You should have:

  • A minimum 2:2 degree in computer science, information technology, computer engineering, engineering, mathematics or another relevant STEM subject (some roles may require a 2:1).
  • A strong interest in cloud computing, infrastructure and technology operations.
  • Good problem-solving skills and the ability to approach technical issues methodically.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow technical and security processes accurately.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to work collaboratively as part of a technical team.
  • Adaptability and a willingness to learn new technologies and ways of working.
  • Availability to begin the role in Belfast in January 2027.

Technical skills we value include:

  • Cloud computing: Exposure to a public cloud platform such as AWS, Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud.
  • Networking: An understanding of network concepts, protocols, connectivity and secure communications.
  • Systems administration: Familiarity with configuring, maintaining or troubleshooting operating systems and technical services.
  • Virtualisation: An understanding of virtual machines, containers or virtualised infrastructure.
  • Python and automation: Experience using Python or another scripting language to automate technical tasks.
  • Security: An awareness of secure configuration, access management and the importance of protecting sensitive systems and information.
