The Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One Team, based out of Brackley, UK, brings together over 1,300 dedicated and determined people that design, develop, manufacture, and race the cars driven by seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton and Grand Prix winner, George Russell.

Within the Teams Applied Science division, we apply Formula One talent to customer projects, and it is within this division that we now have opportunities to join as part of our Applied Science Graduate scheme. As part of this graduate scheme, you will work on exciting projects and be able to immerse yourself into the learning and experiences of a truly high-performing team.

The Graduate R&D Engineer will play an active role in the MGPs Applied Science division, working across a range of projects according to the variable needs of the design and development programmes. The position will require periods of individual working on specific projects and working closely with groups of focused engineers to achieve larger project goals.

Although primarily a role to support Applied Science, there will be a requirement to liaise and work closely with other areas of the business, with a view to transferring capability techniques and knowledge into Applied Science as applicable.

The role:

Working closely with the Lead Materials Science Engineer, assisting with development activities within the Applied Science division, covering (but not restricted to):

  • Experimental planning, execution, and documentation
  • Deployment of information to the wider Applied Science division
  • Routine test support
  • Development of novel testing methodology
  • Specification and SOP writing
  • Identification and implementation of cost reduction strategies
  • Process development and streamlining.
  • Failure investigations (in-service, testing, or in production)
  • Build and maintain strong relationships between various internal departments within MGP during the execution of their duties.
  • Plan, deliver and otherwise manage projects as directed, adhering to strict project timelines.

Candidate Profile

Essential:

  • Engineering or Sciences degree, or equivalent qualification(s).
  • Hands-on individual with a good grounding in scientific principles, with a high attention to detail.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and schematics.
  • Equally comfortable working individually on a specific project or working with a cross-functional team.
  • Flexible with the ability to conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines.
  • Strongly self-motivated, driven, and keen to take initiative.
  • Someone who is tenacious, curious, creative and enjoys working in a dynamic environment.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills with the ability to articulate across the organisation at all levels as required.

Desirable:

  • Experience of project leadership in a team-oriented environment.
  • Demonstrable skills in data analysis, interpretation, and reporting of results.
  • Ability to creatively present data in formats that make it accessible and understandable to a wide range of stakeholders and business areas. This includes formal report writing skills.

Specific Advantageous Experience:

  • Experience of modern CAD software.
  • Coding for data analysis and visualisation in Python, Matlab, VBA or similar.
  • Dashboard development in business insight tools such as PowerBI or Tibco Spotfire.
