"Within my first few months IMPACT had organised go karting, a boat party and curling which was a great way to break the ice with other graduates."

After starting at KBR I was immediately given real responsibilities within the piping team, working alongside experienced engineers. This really helps develop your professional engineering skillset. As a Piping Graduate, there are opportunities to develop technical skills in piping stress, materials and layout through project experience and internal training courses.

KBR actively encourages graduates to work toward Chartership through their respective disciplines’ institute, supporting progress by providing each graduate a mentor and aligning them onto the MPDS scheme. There are a number of opportunities to build on this progress including internal/external training courses and experience on international projects. In my first few months my work has involved working on various piping stress and material aspects of the FEED stage as part of an LNG project situated in Nigeria. I also had the opportunity to go on a site visit to Norway to see Johan Sverdrup accommodation module where you can really appreciate the scale of projects you can work on at KBR.

Included in the graduate scheme is IMPACT. This is run by the KBR graduate network where events, socials and other networking functions are organised frequently. Within my first few months IMPACT had organised go karting, a boat party and curling which was a great way to break the ice with other graduates.

I’ve found working within the piping department especially interesting since the work done affects multiple other disciplines and vice versa. I have worked with Mechanical Engineers to align the mechanical equipment data to the correct pipeline analysis but also Process Engineers to ensure lines are suitable for the content they carry. The nature of piping discipline means that new challenges present themselves daily as you are constantly interfacing with different disciplines. This is great for developing a breadth of understanding from all aspects of a project.
