The UK Government has committed to ensuring all UK homes have a connection to the GB smart meter network.
The standard Home Area Network (HAN) architecture cannot reach the gas meter or the in-home display in about 1.5m homes so a solution which can work with the existing infrastructure needed to be created.
Due to the solution not allowing any changes in existing hardware or software, this is a considerable interoperability challenge.
CC designed a working solution to the AltHAN need consisting of four different units and partnered with Landis+Gyr as the manufacturer and supplier.
This enabled Landis+Gyr to win a competitive bid for the AltHAN hardware contract to supply the 1.5m GB homes with the novel, secure and reliable solution designed, developed and tested by CC.
