As part of my apprenticeship, I study Digital and Technology Solutions (Software Engineering) at the University of Hertfordshire. I joined MBDA for a multitude of reasons. Not only does MBDA combine my interests in defence and technology, but it is a very inclusive company and provides a lot of support for my mental health as well as further training/advancement.
I am currently on my third placement within the business, based in production test software, but I have previously worked in product lines and capability. Since joining, I have become more involved with the company. This includes being a Stevenage Campus Champion, and therefore being in the team managing outreach for the site, as well as helping to facilitate the early careers inductions.
As an apprentice, I have been able to partake in many webinars and workshops to support my personal development in the business, as well as help indicate whether I would be more suited to a technical or a managerial role. In terms of technical development, I have been able to go on many to broaden my horizons in terms of future careers. I also have a mentor who helps me fine tune the work I produce as well as helping me to engage with different departments to take up placements in those areas.
For me, my best days at work have been the result of solving a problem, which I have been working on for some time, which at points seemed unsolvable.
MBDA isn’t your normal 9-5 – there is so much you can be involved with which can help refresh your mind during your day at work. We have dynamic working, which is great if you have other responsibilities as you can vary your working hours and work from home. MBDA also bring so much opportunity for both personal, and academic development.
