Before starting my second year at university, I had always planned to undertake a placement year. I anticipated various challenges, but I was equally excited about the limitless rewards and experiences it would offer. My degree is in Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering, which might initially seem unrelated to a role in a chemical engineering company. However, this placement at Celanese has proven otherwise, highlighting the vast scope of work and the significant contributions one can make here.
Celanese presents a remarkable opportunity to gain a comprehensive understanding of business operations, both in daily activities and long-term strategies. You gain insights into stewardship, productivity, maintenance, reliability, processes, and more. During my placement, I have had the chance to work on diverse projects across different sectors of the site, including hydraulic systems, gearboxes and motors, electrical instrumentation, installations, and much more.
My time at Celanese has been incredibly enriching, equipping me with numerous skills and enhancing my perspective on engineering. I've learned concepts that are introduced throughout university, which I believe will give me an edge over peers who chose not to pursue a placement year.
