Project Lead

Tell us a bit about yourself

I've been at Rolls-Royce for six years in total, having started out on the graduate programme. I now work in Programme Management as a Project Lead. Outside of work, I’m a scout Leader looking after four local groups and help set up new groups in disadvantaged areas. I’ve ran plenty of STEM sessions!

Where do you see yourself in the future?

I would like to develop into a Project Manager and eventually a Programme Manager in the Aerospace and Defence sectors. I'm already working towards my project management chartership with the Association for Project Management.

How did you get involved with the Multi Faith Network?

I'm a British Muslim with Sikh, Hindu and Christian family members. The ideal person to be part of a multi-faith network! As soon as I was aware of the idea of employee networks, I wanted to set one up in Birmingham. The company-wide MFN was just being created at the time. Now I'm an active member, and help the Birmingham site.

What has the MFN done in your area?

When we moved sites, we designed and built a quiet room for multi-faith prayers and worship. I led prayers for around 50 people which are still being held every week. We’ve also done work on making sure that the dietary requirements of people of many faiths are being catered for. We’ve also held a number of events, including an interfaith week.

How does Rolls-Royce support the MFN?

They helped us set up the network here, promoting it with leaders and managers, and encouraging them to give it real priority. Making the creation and success of employee networks like the MFN part of the Rolls-Royce business objectives really helped with this. Rolls-Royce also gives employees the time and resources to really get involved.

How does the network have a positive effect on you and others?

None of us want to leave because of the amazing and inclusive environment we have here. I feel like I can bring my whole self to work. Rolls-Royce has created an environment where I can speak openly about my faith. For example, on starting a new role as a leader, I felt completely confident about letting them know that on Fridays I need to pray at a particular time. That way, they can avoid booking in meetings at that time.

There has been a huge influx of employees from different cultures and faiths over the last couple of years. This diverse atmosphere where employees can really be themselves helps us to create and innovate.
