Who are we looking for?

At GHD we are looking for an entry-level engineering professional in the first two years post-graduation to join our technical delivery team in Manchester as a Graduate Civil / Structural Engineer.. We seek a candidate that uses professional concepts and academic knowledge to assist in solving engineering problems of limited scope and complexity. The Candidate will contributes to civil / structural projects such across the water, energy and industrial markets, supporting the team in delivering high-quality outcomes for clients. The candidate will focus on building practical experience and will improve their understanding of engineering practices and principles, in a real-world consulting environment.

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in: 

  • Client & Customer Management (External): Support senior colleagues manage client and customer relationships by using relevant processes and systems, to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Community of Practice: Participate in a community of technical expertise practice across defined areas of expertise or consulting, to begin to build their own expertise.
  • Contract Management: Deliver required outcomes by managing and coordinating activities of subconsultants and suppliers, acting as a primary point of contact for them while working within an established contract management plan.
  • Engineering Inspections: Carry out inspections (including working with other disciplines as necessary) under the supervision of senior colleagues to evaluate the quality of engineering works and/or the integrity of existing installations or structures, and make recommendations to senior colleagues on the remedial works needed to ensure conformance with specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Deliver Engineering Solutions: Contribute to the development of, and implementation of, engineering solutions including providing validation.
  • Health, Safety, and Environment: Follow the organisation's health, safety, and environment (HSE) policies, procedures, and mandatory instructions to actively identify and mitigate environmental risks and risks to the well-being of self and others in the workplace; instruct the team in safe working methods; identify instances of risky behaviours within the team and take appropriate action, escalating serious issues as appropriate.
  • Improvement/Innovation: Identify opportunities in existing processes, systems, and procedures, and use established change management programs to drive improvements through innovation and continual improvement.
  • Personal Capability Building: Develop own capabilities through participating in assessment and development planning activities as well as formal and informal training and development. Develop and maintain an understanding of relevant technology, external regulation, and industry best practices through ongoing education, attending conferences, and reading specialist media.
  • Project Management: Support others by carrying out a range of activities to ensure effective and efficient project management.
  • Request for Bids /Proposals/Tender Responses: Gather information and resources to assist in the drafting of responses to requests for bids, proposal, and requests for tender.

What you will bring to the Team

Education

  • Have a Class 2:1 degree (or above) in Civil / Structural Engineering. Other relevant subjects will be considered.

Experience

  • General Experience: 0-2 years of experience in related field.
