Application Process

Everyone is welcome at EDF and we strive to create an inclusive and diverse environment where everyone has a voice and where you feel confident being yourself and we’ll do all we can to support you through the selection process.

1. Online Application Form

Apply to our roles via our Gradcracker Hub. You’ll be prompted to create a user account when applying for a role and by doing this you’ll be able to view jobs and check on application statuses. Be targeted and clear in your programme choice – we can only accept an application for one programme, so take the time to research which one is best for you. If you do have any questions contact one of the team at before applying for the role.

When you apply, you’ll be asked to complete a short application form that provides some basic information about you and your academic qualifications. It’s important you read this carefully and check through it before submitting.

*NB. There are minimum qualification requirements for each role, so please make sure you understand what these are before making your application.

2. Online Assessments

On applying, your application will be reviewed by our recruitment team and successful candidates will be progressed to the assessment stage.

The assessment consists of a series of interactive tasks designed to measure your unique behaviours and give us insight into your potential to succeed in the role.

As you complete each task, the test will capture data that provide insights into your natural behaviours. This gives you the opportunity to show us your true potential whilst enjoying an engaging experience, and provides us with a richer picture of how you'll suit our programmes. It also counters unconscious bias in the selection process, giving each candidate equal opportunity to succeed. Keep an eye out for the email invitation addressed from noreply@arcticshores.com

No advance preparation is required. If you would like to familiarise yourself with the assessment format, you will have the option of completing a practice task in the preliminary section of the assessment. You can also complete a practice task here to get an idea of the format.

If you require a reasonable adjustment, please read the additional information in your invitation email and reach out via the support email provided before you begin the assessment.

Your application will be reviewed and successful candidates will be progressed to the online assessment stage.

The assessment can be completed on desktop, mobile, or tablet. Please make sure you have a strong, stable internet connection and are using the latest version of your chosen internet browser.

We recommend completing the assessment in a quiet, distraction-free environment so you can focus on the information. Instructions are provided ahead of each task which you can revisit if needed - please read these carefully so you know what’s expected. There are no right or wrong answers, so we encourage you to approach the tasks in a way that feels most natural to you.

Please expect to set aside between 45-60 minutes to complete the assessment. Depending on the programme you apply for, the first 1-2 tasks in the assessment may be timed. You will be able to take breaks between each task.

Upon completing the assessment, you will receive a personalised feedback report providing you with insights into your unique psychological characteristics and how your responses translate into real-world scenarios. We will be in touch soon after to update you on the status of your application.

3. Video Interview

Successful candidates at online assessment will be asked to complete a video interview.

The video interview uses a scenario based question approach because we want to try and provide you with a realistic preview of the role and some of the tasks you may be involved in. We are also interested in your skills, behaviours, core strengths and potential to succeed in the role.

We don’t need you to have experience in specific situations, we are interested in how you would tackle tasks and how you would behave in different situations at work. If you require any adjustments before completing this interview, then please let us know in advance and we will support you. We want to set you up with the right set of circumstances so you can succeed and perform at your best. If you would rather complete an audio only interview, then we also offer this option.

This interview should last no more than 15 minutes. You will be presented with 4 questions in total. You will have up to 3 minutes to record your answer to each question, but you can re-record yours answers if needed and you will also be given some thinking time before recording your answer to each question.

Please make sure that you are familiar with the technology before you start, so that you record your answer correctly.

We will ask you questions around your motivation for applying to EDF/the role (i.e. why you are interested to work for us, your passion for the role), as well as some around the key skills that are important to EDF and specifically, the programme you have applied to. All of the questions are viewed by our trained EDF Recruitment Team and are scored using our standardised scoring guides and job relevant criteria to ensure fairness and consistency across all candidates. They are not marked by a computer.

Top Tips!

  • Be your natural self. We are interested in getting to know you, understanding your natural behaviours and how you would apply your skills in various contexts and approach future challenges.
  • Check your environment, remember this is an interview - check what is visible in the background and try to look at the camera.
  • There are no trick questions, be yourself, we want you to succeed!
  • Check your technology - you need enough charge on your device, make sure your wifi is connected. If you are using your phone, makes sure it is propped up/stable so that your hand isn’t shaking whilst recording your answers.
  • You don’t need to utilise the full time given to answer your question. If you answer it clearly and succinctly in less time, that is fine.

4. Assessment Centre/Interview

The final stages of the recruitment process will vary, depending on what type of programme you have applied for:

  • Graduates and Apprentices – you will attend an assessment centre (this could be virtual or face to face), which includes an interview
  • Industrial Placements – you will attend an interview (this could be virtual or face to face)

The assessment centre is an opportunity for you to demonstrate your skills in a variety of scenarios. The day will typically consist of a group exercise, 2 x shorter micro exercises (these are 121 with an assessor) and a scenario based interview, which provides an opportunity to dig further into your skills and behaviours; alongside your motivations and values, as well as providing additional insight into your potential to succeed in the role.

You may also be asked to complete a presentation, which is usually included in the interview section of the day, and if this will form part of your assessment centre, the details of this will be provided in advance.
