STEM Nuclear Graduate

Environmental Science, Biology, Maths, Geography.

About the Role

Looking for a career where you can learn, grow, and make an impact? At EDF, Success is Personal. From day one, you'll be supported by experts, build skills for the future, and play a part in powering Britain's transition to a more electrified, low-carbon future.

What's it like to be a Graduate at EDF?
Immy, Jenny and Chiyedza share what life on the Graduate Scheme at EDF is like.

The Opportunity

As a Nuclear Graduate, you’ll earn a salary of £37,500 per annum and join a structured development programme designed to build technical expertise, confidence, and leadership skills. The programme is expected to begin in September 2027, when you'll join our graduate community and start establishing your career at EDF.

Over the course of this two-year programme, you'll complete STEM-based placements across our nuclear business, gaining valuable experience and developing the knowledge and skills to progress into a permanent role at EDF, which is driving the transition to An Electric Britain.

What You’ll Experience

Being part of Hinkley Point C means helping to shape the future of low-carbon energy. You'll contribute to a project that will provide clean electricity for millions of homes while supporting the UK's energy security.

You'll gain hands-on experience across commissioning, pre-operations and technical teams while contributing to the UK's first EPR nuclear power station. You'll also explore disciplines including engineering, chemistry, environment, reactor operations, emergency preparedness, radiological protection and nuclear safety.

No two days are the same. You'll experience a wide range of environments, projects and challenges that will help you build confidence, strengthen your technical knowledge and discover where your interests can take you within EDF.

Location

Your primary base will be Hinkley Point C, where you'll complete placements across a range of teams and functions. Depending on your placement rotations and project requirements, you may also spend time working from our #Bridgwater and our #Bristol Aztec West offices.

To help you get the most from the programme, you’ll be working on-site at least three days per week. This means you’ll need to live, or be willing to relocate, within a reasonable commuting distance of Hinkley Point C.

Where This Programme Could Take You

Lucy joined EDF as an HPC Nuclear Graduate in 2024. During the programme, she gained experience across Pre-Operations Chemistry, Operations, Commissioning Chemistry and Nuclear Services, developing knowledge across several specialist areas.

Today, Lucy, who works as a Chemistry Engineer, continues to broaden her experience through our Pre-Operations Chemistry and Environment team. Her work has helped her develop a holistic appreciation of the organisation and a deeper understanding of how different departments connect.

"Working across commissioning and pre-operations teams has given me hands-on experience at one of Europe's largest engineering projects. Every placement has helped me learn something new and understand how different teams contribute to a shared goal."

Who You Are

To be eligible for this EDF graduate programme, you need to have achieved, or be expecting to achieve, a bachelor's or postgraduate degree in a STEM subject. This extends to also considering degrees that demonstrate strong scientific, analytical and numerical capability, such as psychology, biology, medicine, environmental and natural sciences, economics and geography.

To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting, which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least three of the past five years.

Please note that an Assessment Centre stage of the hiring process will take place online on November 25 and 26, 2026. Applicants must be able to attend on this date to be considered for the programme.

Pay, Benefits and Culture

Alongside a starting salary of at least £37,500 per annum, potential for an annual bonus, and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include customisable benefits such as electric vehicle leasing, discounted gym membership, life assurance, tech vouchers, experience days, and more.

At EDF, we believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That's why we offer you the freedom to develop a career that's unique to you. Here, Success is Personal – it's your journey, powered by us.

Everyone is welcome at EDF; we're committed to building a workforce that reflects gender balance, social mobility, and inclusion of minority ethnic backgrounds, LGBTQ+ communities, and those with disabilities.
