Who is Caterpillar?

We are the world's leading manufacturer of Construction and Mining Equipment, diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines and diesel-electric locomotives. By joining our graduate scheme, you will be able to explore various roles and disciplines around the business to help develop your career. Our core values (Integrity, Excellence, Teamwork, Commitment and Sustainability) are key to our success.

What do we do?

Caterpillar is a global leader in the field of small and medium sized industrial diesel engines and have world class manufacturing facilities in the UK, US, Brazil, India and China. We have exciting opportunities within the Operations Quality department for graduates who want to be part of our global business. In order to develop and progress with a successful career in quality, we provide the necessary resources, freedom and support to those who thrive on being challenged whilst working in a rapidly changing environment with a multitude of opportunities available throughout our business.

At Caterpillar, We Build What Matters

It's your career. Make it matter. At Caterpillar, you build what matters – whether it’s the career you want, crucial work skills, strong relationships or new digital technologies.

What experiences can we offer you?

You will be working on many diverse and strategically important quality improvement projects and will be given the responsibility for managing the delivery of these projects, on time and to budget.

The scheme lasts two years in duration; with rotational placements within quality and operations departments, each placement lasting typically 3-6 months; the development scheme gives you the opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge as you move through different areas of the business.

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing your knowledge of quality processes and management systems within an operational environment.
  • Leading teams and applying 6 Sigma methodology to perform complex investigations into quality issues.
  • Application of lean manufacturing principles in quality processes.
  • Deployment and assessment of production and quality management systems.
  • Working with suppliers to achieve prescribed quality targets.
  • Utilising the latest data analytic techniques to identify quality trends.

Your rotations will include working with other significant business areas from operations, engineering, product management, product support, logistics, finance, purchasing, suppliers and customers. This will enable you to understand their interactions and how a company the size of Caterpillar operates on a global scale.

You will be given project leadership experience to grow your portfolio and skills. Whilst on the development scheme you are given the support and coaching required to develop your technical capability and business acumen and within a short period of time you will become an embedded team member within the quality department.

You will have the opportunity to benefit from a mentor from a professional institute to support your progression towards your professional qualifications. At the end of the development scheme, we will work with you to find a suitable but demanding role in key business areas, which will position you well for your long-term career in Caterpillar.
