At Caterpillar, We Build What Matters

It's your career. Make it matter. At Caterpillar, you build what matters – whether it’s the career you want, crucial work skills, strong relationships or new digital technologies.

What do we do?

The Advanced Components (ACM) division spans seven countries and has 5,000+ employees. We deliver operational excellence in manufacturing drivetrain, hydraulic components, and operator stations, producing components valued greater than $3B. The ACM team includes Supply Chain, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality Engineering, Environmental Health and Safety, and Operations Managers who align to deliver improved safety, quality, velocity and cost to our business partners.

We have an exciting opportunity for an undergraduate student to join our ACM team based in Belfast. Working with others across our organisation, you would be directly involved and at the heart of our business, participating on strategic projects driving continuous improvement, efficiency gain and cost reduction.

What experiences can we offer you?

The Manufacturing Engineering Team are responsible for leading production employees to execute the assembly, test and paint processes within the manufacturing facility, to deliver a world-class product to our customers.  This role utilises the Caterpillar Production System (Lean Manufacturing) Principles to deliver People, Quality, Velocity and Cost (PQVC) improvements and results.

During the industrial placement, you will be based within the Manufacturing Engineering team working on real projects, alongside experienced manufacturing engineers gaining first-hand experience of Lean Manufacturing, supporting efficiency improvement initiatives at the facility and updating production standard work documentation. You will be required to interact and liaise with other departments internal and external to the business.

You will be given all the support you require to be successful in your placement.

We hold a Meet and Greet day for all new UK placement students to provide you with an opportunity to meet fellow new starters across the UK before you start your placement.

We also operate a conditional offers process; our highest performing placement students are fast tracked to our graduate development scheme. This includes a financial incentive and the potential of a summer work placement. Offers will be made based on the condition that a graduate role will be available at the time of your graduation and that you will have achieved a min of 2:2.

Who are we looking for?

We’re looking for people who can show us a highly participative working style, and who thrive in a team of committed professionals. And at the same time, we need people who can think individually and drive change through persuasion and influence. Strong analytical, interpersonal, and presentational skills are a must as you’d need to package clear strategic recommendations based on data and sell them to production and management employees.

It is essential that applicants should have achieved or be on track to achieve a minimum of a 2:2 in one of the following disciplines: Automotive, Aeronautical/Aerospace, Control Systems, Integrated Engineering, Manufacturing, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Motorsport, Systems Engineering.

Other relevant engineering degrees may be considered.
