At Northern Powergrid, our five power principles are:
- Personal Responsibility
- Work as a Team
- Deliver Quality
- Drive Improvement
- Build a Stronger Team
These are the foundation of our company culture and are used to help guide our decision-making processes. These principles reflect our commitment to creating a collaborative and high-performing environment where every team member is empowered to contribute their best.
During the interview process, we will use these principles as a framework to assess how well candidates align with our values and how they can enhance our team dynamics. By evaluating experiences and behaviours that demonstrate these principles, we aim to select individuals who not only possess the necessary skills but also share our vision for a supportive and innovative workplace. This ensures that new hires are not only capable but are also a great fit for our culture, leading to greater success for you and the company as a whole.
Personal Responsibility
- Take personal responsibility for getting the job done and seeing it through to the end.
- Set clear, realistic expectations from the start and keep your customers, colleagues and stakeholders informed.
- Bring energy, pace and optimism to your work and your team.
- Earn and maintain the trust and respect of the people you are dealing with.
- Plan ahead; anticipate problems and find solutions.
- Own it until it’s done: if other teams need to get involved, make it your business to check things are progressing as they should.
Work as a Team
- Bring people into your project with the right skills, experience and attitude.
- Work to your teammates’ strengths to collectively deliver to the Power of 10.
- Build a positive, inclusive team environment that encourages diversity and new ideas.
- Encourage people in the team to constructively question how we do things.
- Communicate - and make sure everyone in the team has a say.
- Collectively own the outcome as a team.
Deliver Quality
- Always look to deliver a 10 out of 10.
- Make sure everyone understands what is needed to deliver a perfect 10.
- Deliver on time and to expectations - at every stage of the process.
- Pay attention to the detail and take pride in delivering to a high quality every time.
- Measure and correct the plan to deliver a perfect 10 out of 10.
- When problems arise, actively intervene to recover the situation.
Drive Improvement
- Always check if there is anything more you can do to deliver a perfect 10, and then do it.
- Don’t accept the norm if it can be done better.
- Never sit on a question, suggestion or concern. Raise it so it can be dealt with.
- Constantly challenge yourself and those around you to find better ways of doing the job.
- Learn from our mistakes - make sure the right people are brought together so we get it right next time.
- When problems arise, actively intervene to recover the situation.
Build a Stronger Team
- Always put safety first: personally work to the highest standards of safety and take accountability for making sure your teammates do the same.
- Play your part in creating an inclusive workplace where everyone feels able to be themselves.
- Invest in your own skills and help others build theirs.
- Make sure you and your team have everything you need to deliver a 10 every time; if it’s not right, let your managers know.
- Be proud of what we do: recognise and celebrate success when we get it right.
