#WeLoveFreshAir: Meet Patrick
We’re a company full of people who love getting fresh air. Like Technical Integrity Inspector and super-awesome motocross racer, Patrick Smith. See how he’s helping us keep the air fresh.

Our employees are the heart of our success, and there is a reason why we continue to attract great talent and it’s not just the excellent benefits package, or the opportunities for personal growth, it’s also the caring and committed culture of the organisation that makes everyone feel like they can bring their authentic self to work and be truly part of our team.

Providing Energy. Improving Lives.

Digital & AI Analyst Industrial Placement

If you want to work on digital projects that directly impact industrial operations, consider a one-year Digital & AI Analyst placement with Phillips 66.

We are looking for a student studying Data Science, Data Analytics, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or a related discipline to join our team for a placement commencing in summer 2027.

You will contribute to live projects that use data, automation and artificial intelligence to improve refinery operations. This could include:

  • Analysing operational data.
  • Developing dashboards and digital workflows.
  • Improving data quality and accessibility.
  • Testing AI solutions and documenting results.
  • Helping teams turn information into practical decisions.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve safety, reliability and performance.

You may work with platforms such as Microsoft Fabric and other data and AI technologies. You will also gain exposure to emerging approaches such as agentic AI, using AI to enrich data, summarise information and support business workflows.

Working alongside experienced analysts, engineers and operational teams, you will develop an understanding of how digital solutions are designed, tested and introduced responsibly within a complex industrial environment.

This placement offers practical experience in data analysis, automation, AI adoption and digital transformation. You do not need experience with every technology listed. We are looking for someone who is curious, analytical, eager to learn and interested in applying technology to real-world challenges.

Qualifications and Education

To be considered, you should:

  • Be studying towards, or expect to achieve, a minimum 2:1 degree in Data Science, Data Analytics, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or a related discipline.
  • Have an interest in how data, automation and AI can be applied to real-world industrial challenges.
  • Be interested in emerging AI approaches, including agentic AI, and in using AI responsibly.
  • Ideally have gained experience through industrial summer placements, internships, part-time employment or work experience. We would particularly like to hear about experiences that have helped you develop teamwork, organisational and problem-solving skills.

What are we looking for?

We are seeking candidates who can demonstrate:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • An analytical and logical approach to problem-solving.
  • The ability to apply technical knowledge to practical challenges.
  • Curiosity and creativity when developing digital and data-driven solutions.
  • The ability to work effectively with people from different technical and professional backgrounds.
  • Confidence using Microsoft 365 applications, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with data analysis, programming, automation or AI tools is welcome. Familiarity with SQL, Python, APIs, Power Platform or basic data modelling would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • Good organisation skills, with the ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines and deliver project work.
  • The confidence to work independently, take initiative and seek support when required.

What Phillips 66 can offer you:

  • The opportunity to get real industrial experience with responsibility and accountability.
  • The ability to integrate and learn from experienced professionals.
  • Membership of our Early Careers Network and take part in fun, informative and social activities.
  • Free daily lunch whilst working on site
  • Accommodation costs met for the first 6 weeks of your placement, giving you the opportunity to settle into the area and get to know other students.
  • Free access to our onsite gym
  • Competitive Salary ranging between £26,439 and £31,848 per annum dependent on level of study completed and degree.

Our Process:

Applications will be reviewed periodically throughout the advertising window. However, we may invite candidates who pass our screening process to selection events on a first-come, first-served basis and making offers of employment to people who are successful at those events, therefore we advise that you apply as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

Interviews will be held at our Humber Refinery in South Killingholme (DN40 3DW) on 18th, 24th and 25th November 2026.

Reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed and overnight accommodation will be provided where appropriate.
