Beth Gardiner

Graduate Transport Planner

What is your name and role at Jacobs?

Hi, I’m Beth! I’ve been working at Jacobs as a Graduate Transport Planner for nearly two years and will soon complete the Graduate Development Programme this September. My role has given me the opportunity to explore a wide range of transport disciplines—from business case development and modelling to design and transport economics.

Describe your role and day-to-day work.

Day-to-day, I focus primarily on data analysis and contributing to strategy and policy work, particularly in active travel and public transport schemes. I’m passionate about working on projects that not only enhance people’s lives but also support a more sustainable future.

Why is Jacobs a great place to start your career?

Jacobs has been a fantastic place to begin my career. As a large organisation, it offers the resources and flexibility to explore different areas of interest—both technically and through the Jacobs Employee Networks (JENs), which foster a strong culture of inclusion and diversity. Here in Birmingham, we also have the BESt (Birmingham Early Starters) network, which helps new starters feel supported and connected from day one. It’s been a great way to build relationships and grow professionally in a collaborative environment.
