What made you decide to apply for a job at Dorset Software?

When I finished my degree, I wasn’t sure exactly what career path I wanted to go down. My experience in this field was very limited, however Dorset Software caught my attention since no specific experience was required and all necessary training would be provided, so I saw it as a great place to start out and learn lots of valuable skills.

How did you find the application and recruitment process?

I found the application and recruitment process quick, seamless and as stress free as it could be! After applying for the job, I received a response and had an initial interview the following day, then was invited to attend a face to face interview in Poole shortly after. I hadn’t done an interview in a while so was quite nervous, but everyone was really friendly which put me at ease. I was given a lot of useful information about the company, and I got a sense that it would be a positive environment to work in. A couple of days after that I received a job offer.

What was your training like?

The training was intense and challenging so I definitely learnt a lot in a short amount of time. You start right from the basics which was perfect for someone like me who had no experience at all, and I really enjoyed learning about all the topics covered. I was constantly supported throughout my training so always had someone to go to for help and advice when needed.

What have you been working on recently?

Recently I’ve been working for a financial services organisation on a project to replace their current CRM systems with Dynamics 365. I am required to talk to different areas of the business to gather department specific requirements. Currently the focus is on the marketing phase of the project, so I have been liaising with the marketing team to capture requirements for their marketing campaigns. Previous assignments have included working with the legal side of the NHS supporting the maintenance of their systems, which involved providing help and advice, investigating and identifying bugs, and facilitating data changes. I’ve also spent some time assisting our internal team training incoming graduates. I've always found the work varied at Dorset Software, so no two days are the same!

How have you found the cultural and social aspects of life at Dorset Software?

I think Dorset Software is great company to work for. It values taking collective responsibility so there is fantastic collaboration between employees. The working environment is relaxed and friendly which helps promote a good work ethic.

Aside from work, there is also a great social community! The company puts on various social events, with the opportunity to bring partners or family along too, so they are a great way to get to know your colleagues. There are also weekly activities, such as badminton, 5-a-side football, boardgames, crafts, pub trip, which provide lots of opportunities to socialise and have fun outside of work.

Any top tips for someone starting out at Dorset Software?

I would advise not to worry if you don’t understand something straight away. Give yourself a bit of time to develop your knowledge and understanding and remember you can always ask someone for help if you need it. They may explain something in a slightly different way that works better for you. When you're faced with something new, see it as a great learning opportunity, which will broaden your knowledge and widen your skillset.
