Our vision is to transform urban spaces into extraordinary environments. Our aim is to create developments that go beyond functionality to create spaces that enhance the wellbeing of the people who live and work in them.
We are committed to turning sustainability ambition into impactful action. We have partnered with the Eden Project to create a place for nature and people. We are committed to continuing to purchase renewable electricity. And we want to bring our customers, suppliers and our community along on our journey.
Our mission at CWG is to empower our people, engage our communities and create sustainable places. The breadth of knowledge and experience that our teams bring is what enables us as a business to fulfil our purpose of bringing people together to enhance lives. This is only possible with the 1,300+ people employed by CWG.
Biodiversity and Wellbeing
We strive to create places for people and nature and understand our responsibility to extend this to our local community. We have partnered with The Felix Project, a charity that tackles food poverty by distributing surplus food to those who need it.
Our priority is to roll out a green scheme to stop surplus quality food from CWG’s cafes, restaurants, offices, and supermarkets from being wasted. A team of volunteers will collect and sustainably deliver the food directly to local schools and community groups around the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, on foot or in the dedicated electric van in Canada Square car park.
We see nature as fundamental for our society, as well as our business operations. We want to create a place where nature and people thrive by transforming our public realm and creating biodiversity net gain across our portfolio.
Eden Project Partnership
In April 2022, we announced our partnership with the Eden Project – the first of its kind – to create a model of how nature can thrive in urban environments. The unique and ground-breaking partnership will tackle the challenge of increasing biodiversity within CWG and provide Eden with a London base.
To reduce waste across the Estate, we have taken our waste management operations in-house, ensuring that, where possible, waste travels by boat rather than trucks. We have sent zero waste to landfill from managed areas since 2009 and we’re taking steps to reduce waste sent to landfill from our construction waste too.
With a long-term vision to be a fully circular neighbourhood, we have undertaken a circular economy baseline exercise, incorporating construction and management activities.
The real estate sector has a significant role to play in addressing the climate crisis. Globally, real estate accounts for nearly 40% of CO₂ emissions. As an integrated developer, contractor and facilities manager, we have a big part to play in not only creating more efficient buildings for the future, but also retrofitting our existing buildings to drive energy efficiency and reduce emissions across our Estate.
