Heidelberg Materials was one of the first concrete producers to work on Canary Wharf more than 10 years ago when the vision of regenerating London’s once proud but decaying docklands began to take shape.
Moored to the Wood Wharf quayside at West India Docks, the Heidelberg Materials plant is supplying up to 800 cubic metres a day of concrete to high-rise office and residential developments in the city’s Canary Wharf business and finance centre.

The use of Sika concrete admixtures has played a key role in the construction of the 65 metre high central concrete lift shaft at One St Peter’s Square, a major new development being built in the centre of Manchester.
The construction of a 20-storey building at 25 Churchill Place in London’s Canary Wharf is the last piece of a flourishing development that began in 1988 and has since transformed the area beyond recognition.
Completed the building is approximately 130m high, with 23 floors, including over 51,100m2 of office space and incorporates four atria on the western elevation.
The use of Heidelberg Materials Watertight concrete has enabled A P Arcon Construction Ltd to construct an exciting new, partly subterranean mansion, on a strip of vacant land between two existing buildings in Kensington.
The main bedrooms, entrance and garage space are above ground, but the main living, entertainment and swimming pool areas are underground, so total watertightness was an essential requirement on the project. For this reason, A P Arcon chose the Heidelberg Materials Watertight concrete system to construct the below ground shell of the building.
