Leigh Kennedy

Civil Nuclear Summer Internship Student

Meet Leigh - a Civil Nuclear Summer Internship Student at Frazer-Nash.

Describe your career journey so far.

"Having worked in retail for over five years, my summer at Frazer-Nash has been my first experience in industry applying my skills from university. I’m studying a combined degree of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering but want to work more in the engineering space, and I found my internship to be a great place to develop those skills and experiences."

What attracted you to Frazer-Nash?

"I was initially attracted to Frazer-Nash because I knew I wanted to work in nuclear power, and the consulting environment means that I would get to work on a variety of projects and work out what I do and don’t like. Their values really aligned with my own, and all their support for women and queer people in the industry is a massive plus too!"

What do you enjoy about working at Frazer-Nash?

"I love the sheer variety of work and projects to get involved in, ranging from technical analysis work to report writing for business development. I’ve had the opportunity to work in industries and use programmes that I previously knew nothing about, with lots of support by my team and wider teams across the business. I also really enjoy working at Frazer-Nash due to the culture, it is very inclusive and summer students are treated as equals and given real meaningful work to do."

What are you excited for in your future at Frazer-Nash?

"I have one year left at university and am excited about the prospect of returning to Frazer-Nash. I believe that a graduate role would provide me with opportunities to develop my skills even further and specialise in the areas I’m most interested in, as well as the chance to lead others by delving into project management."

What would be your top tip to members going through the application process?

"Work hard on your CV to make sure you’ve got everything important down and expanded on – the difference between my first and final drafts was huge! I’d also say to consider consultancy if you haven’t before, as it’s been a great way to find out what work is being done in the wider industry which is so important at the beginning of your career."

How did Gradcracker support you in finding your role?

"Gradcracker was where I first heard about Frazer-Nash, and they made the application process feel like a breeze. When applying to multiple jobs, it was easy to keep track of them, and the webinars were particularly helpful in finding out more details about companies and their cultures."
