Job Description
Wood is a global organisation delivering solutions to critical challenges; mainly in the energy and material markets. This includes the provision of engineering support to oil and gas projects, pharmaceutical sites, etc.
As part of the placement, applicants will be tasked with undertaking engineering activities such as, performing structural calculations, developing engineering designs & problem solving, undertaking site surveys with others, preparation of MTO’s & BOQ’s and preparation of scopes of work and contract tender documentation. Applicants will also provide support to Senior Engineers in their day to day tasks.
This placement will enable applicants to gain experience and understanding of the work completed in a multidisciplinary team. Applicants are encouraged to ask questions that will further their learning and development.
Responsibilities
Appreciation of Company and Project Health, Safety, Ethics, Environment and Quality Systems
Carry out work in accordance with project guidelines and procedures
Provision of engineering activities to projects (ie: performing structural calculations) as assigned
Review calculations, drawings, or work pack documents as required
Develop 2D and 3D structural models using software for the purposes of analysis and design (ie: Tekla Structural Designer, STAAD Pro, TEDDS, MS excel)
Communicate and liaise effectively within a multidiscipline team
Ensure all technical documents and data are prepared and structured in accordance with relevant design codes, company standards and legislation
Provide documentation/ drawing deliverables on time to meet project deadlines
Provide technical assistance where required
Attend Civil Group meetings
About you
Working towards an Accredited Undergraduate Civil Engineering Degree (Within the final years of program)
Must be eligible to work in the UK
Knowledge of:
Key engineering concepts in Structural Engineering (reinforced concrete design, structural steelwork design), Geotechnical Engineering (review & interpretation of Geotechnical site investigations, soil load bearing capacity checks, foundation calculations) and Hydraulics/ Hydrology (drainage, Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems)
Appreciation for sustainability and its importance in Engineering projects
All applicants should have the following experience:
A range of Civil Engineering modules/ courses (ie: structural, geotechnical, hydraulics)
Working under pressure and time constraints
All applicants should have the ability to:
Build good working relationships within the team
Write concise and clear technical/ calculation reports
Communicate effectively
Be organised and prioritise tasks
Meet deadlines without compromising on detail or accuracy
Be critical and inquisitive
All applicants should demonstrate the following:
