Zhanna Temirbayeva is a Senior Director at Ankura based in London. Zhanna has more than 17 years of experience in the construction and oil and gas industries. Her experience has included projects which range between $50 million and $80 billion for clients across all sectors within the construction industry. These sectors include infrastructure projects, airports, energy (nuclear, oil, and gas), commercial facilities, and residential buildings.

Experience

Over the past seven years, she has specialised in dispute resolution and expert witness in international arbitration involving projects in the UK, Middle East, Australia, Kazakhstan, and Russia.

Zhanna’s professional experience includes:

Mixed-use Development

  • Mixed-use Development, Saudi Arabia ($62 million): Provided support to the quantum expert in international arbitration in relation to a dispute arising from the termination of a subcontrator.
  • Luxury Hotel in Azerbaijan: Assisting the appointed quantum expert for the employer defending a termination claim from the contractor in relation to a hotel and commercial development in Central Asia.
  • Residential project, UK (£1.5 million): Preparation of quantum claim on behalf of the sub-contractor in litigation.

Renewable Energy 

  • Offshore Wind Farm, United Kingdom: Provided support to the expert witness on a dispute (£128 million, €153 million, $36 million, and CN¥45 million) relating to the completion of the offshore wind farm located in the North Sea for arbitration. This work included analysis of quantum in relation to cost to complete, remedial costs of defects and variations including assisting in the drafting of various sections of the reports.

Oil & Gas

  • LNG Pipeline, Australia (AUD$2 Billion), Upstream project to support two LNG trains: Provided support to the quantum expert in international arbitration on contractual claims and quantum meruit assessments.
  • LNG Pipeline, Australia (AUD$2 Billion), Upstream project to support three LNG trains: Review and evaluation of contractor’s claims as part of expert team for additional payment for $1 billion including consideration of contractual and valuation issues.
  • CCGT plant in Russia: Assisted with preparation of an expert report for arbitration (€17 million) on an A120MW combined cycle power plant in Russia. Researched events and assisted in carrying out the delay analysis and drafting of reports.
  • Offshore Field Production Centre, Canada: Assisted the appointed quantum expert on a claim dispute ($220 million). Assisted in carrying out the quantum analysis.
  • Oil and Gas Field Development ($80 Billion), Kazakhstan: Participated in preparation of expert report regarding reported cost increases in field development. Assisted expert in the preparation of technical and commercial reports following the failure of a gas re-injection plant on an oil and gas field. Role involved assisting the quantum expert realted to a delay, cost overrun, and failure to achieve specified outputs of a major process installation (€400 million). Provided Kazakhstan client with a commercial review of major sub-contracts relating to an off-shore oil and gas field. Provided Kazakhstan client with a commercial and technical review of defective works on oil and gas field. Provided Kazakhstan client with a value engineering assessment of an oil and gas field.

International Airport

  • Airport Project, ME ($40 Million): Provided support to the quantum expert in international arbitration in respect of dispute arising from subcontract termination.

Infrastructure

  • Road project, UK (£400 Million): Preparation of quantum claims in connection with earthworks for adjudication.
