NATS is the UK’s leading Air Navigation Service Provider (ANSP). Every year we handle 2.5 million flights and keep 300 million passengers safe whilst in UK airspace. We provide air traffic management (ATM) services to 15 airports in the UK as well as providing these services around the world spanning Europe, Middle East, Asia and North America.

This one-year placement is for undergraduate students in their penultimate year. You’ll be based at our Corporate & Technical Centre in Whiteley, near Fareham, with flexibility to work from home where the role allows.
You’ll join the Safety Performance team, which uses data from across NATS to help operational teams and leaders understand safety trends and decide where improvements are needed. You’ll gain experience of safety analysis and reporting while exploring how automation and AI could support the team’s work.

We welcome applications from students in STEM disciplines, or from those with demonstrable analytical, technical or data-focused skills. You do not need to be an expert in aviation, but you should be interested in how data, automation and emerging technologies such as AI can be used to improve safety performance.
We are looking for a curious undergraduate who enjoys solving problems and working with data. You should be able to demonstrate the ability to:
Experience or interest in data analysis, coding, automation, dashboards or AI tools would be valuable, but a willingness to learn and apply structured thinking is just as important.
To be eligible to apply, you must have indefinite, unrestricted right to work in the UK. Unfortunately, we cannot consider candidates whose right to work is time-limited or dependent on visa sponsorship.
You must be able to obtain Security Clearance (SC Level).

Assessment centres will be held between 30 November and 11 December 2026.
The start date for the scheme is 6 September 2027.
