STEM Ambassadors, Louise Muller, Lead Quality Advisor and Elaine Coldwell, Safety, Sustainability & Wellbeing Advisor recently assisted with the Greenpower Education Trust Event held at the home of the Top Gear test track at Dunsfold Aerodrome in Cranleigh, Surrey.
On the day around 50 cars competed in a typical Formula 24 race day.
Louise and Elaine carried out safety checks throughout the day making sure the children were wearing the correct clothing, helmets and harnesses. Alongside ensuring all cars have met the Greenpower regulations and were deemed safe to compete.
The Greenpower Education Trust give young people an exciting, real-life challenge with a proven track record in sparking an interest in engineering. The challenge was to design, build and race an electric car, harnessing the excitement of motorsport to inspire young people to excel in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) studies.
Greenpower work with over 700 schools throughout the UK and run 38 regional events. More than 10,000 students take part each year, from primary school through to university.
Elaine said “It was great to be part of this event to demonstrate the importance of engineering and associated STEM subjects, to inspire young people to solve the problems faced by societies today, particularly in the areas of sustainability. All teams thoroughly enjoyed the experience and we are looking forward to taking part again next year.”
