The Academy is a year-long programme equipping you with the tools and knowledge to excel in your new career in tech. The initial training is a broad, multi-discipline 5-week entry level programme, followed by 2 further weeks of training in the first 6 months. You will gain experience across many of the sectors that BJSS works in, get hands-on with tech quickly, and gain an understanding of the different roles within engineering.

  • As an Academy Engineer, your role is to understand what technology challenges your clients are facing, and then find solutions to these challenges.
  • You’ll get to work with some of the brightest and best in the industry on some of the most exciting digital programmes around.
  • We want you to make the most of your potential; to help you continue your learning, we’ll help you achieve career-enhancing professional and industry certifications, including AWS, GCP, Azure, Power Platform and many more.
  • You’ll have the chance to sharpen your skills and specialise in a variety of areas, including: Software Engineering, Software Test Engineering, Platform/DevOps Engineering and Data Engineering.
  • Once you are assigned to a project the support and training opportunities don’t stop. You will be assigned a technical mentor to support you with your development, you will also have access to a wide range of learning resources, and we will arrange regular meetups for you and your fellow Academy Alumni.

Please note, this role can be based at any of the following locations:

Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Glasgow, Leeds, London, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham, Sheffield.

So what do you need to know before you apply? 

We expect each applicant to understand the following fundamentals of programming – in any language:

  • Variable Declaration (e.g. var x = 1)
  • Basic Syntax (how to structure and write your code)
  • Data Types (string, int, bool) & Data Structures (Arrays, Lists)
  • Conditionals (If/Then/Else)
  • Iteration (Loops)
  • Debugging
