Lewis Robson

Graduate Design Engineer

How was your first day?

"On my first day at Severfield, I was made to feel very comfortable by the team and settled in very fast. The team has a good culture of letting new graduates or any new employee find their feet without any added pressure! I found that anybody in the office is more than happy to help and answer any questions I have."

What do you enjoy about working at Severfield?

"I enjoy the great opportunity to work on some of the biggest projects in the UK currently. For me personally, I enjoy learning the specialist expertise in steel connection design and temporary works. I have gained a great understanding of how a large steel-framed building is built and the practical challenges that arise during this."

What does an average day look like?

"An average day includes collaborating with other colleagues in the design team and producing solutions to various problems within steelwork connection design and temporary works design. My days are varied with different tasks to do each day, so it is always interesting!"

What would you say to someone thinking of applying for a Graduate Scheme?

"I would say absolutely! The graduate scheme is a great opportunity to become a Chartered member of the Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE), which gives you a chance to gain experience in several different departments."
