ShockSoc is the University of York's Electronics Society: designed to help electronics students and anyone interested in electronics to expand their knowledge and skills whilst also socialising and interacting with like minded people.
We conduct regular lab sessions, giving our members opportunities to buy and build cool kits such as guitar pedals and 3D LED cubes. During these lab sessions we have frequent competitions with prizes ranging from a bag of haribo to a £100 prize pot. On the social side, we host frequent events like our famous open mic nights, where members are welcome to perform or just watch in a welcoming, chilled atmosphere.
Our society also has a strong emphasis on employability. As well as frequent graduate opportunity e-mails, we provide career advice and workshops, working with our friends futureboard, a consultancy company based in London. We have previously taken members down to their offices for employability, CV, and interview help workshops for careers in engineering and electronics.
