The Aberdeen University Mechanical Engineering Society (AUMECH) is a society that aims to provide a safe platform for meeting fellow students, discussing topics, and seeking to improve skills with all things concerning mechanical engineering.
Throughout the academic year, we endeavour to provide our members with experiences that will boost employability and help develop both professional and personal connections in the engineering sector. This has been and will continue to be achieved through talks from ourselves and guest speakers, online socials and workshops to develop various interpersonal skills.
(All activities will be made safe according to COVID-19 guidelines)
Our society aims to give and host talks that provide students with the best advice possible. From graduates starting in the field, to academics with a background in industry, our guest speakers give invaluable insight to the different paths a mechanical engineer can take in their career.
Most recently, Matthew Laskaj, engineering consultancy owner and IMechE Scottish Chair, presented a talk discussing his views on what students need to make a good start in their future careers.
Our social event of the year has been a virtual pub quiz where teams of students were competing against each other in terms of general engineering knowledge.
The quiz was popular amongst our members, with prizes like Spotify membership and Just-Eat vouchers. We plan to organise more social events in the future to build a stronger community in the mechanical engineering area of Aberdeen University.
