At the University of Southampton AI Society we aim to create a common learning space for people with an interest in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.
Every year, on a two-week basis, we run beginner and advanced workshops for our members, focusing on the most practical uses of Machine Learning. Some of the topics we cover include Deep Learning, Recommendation Systems, Model Deployment and Object Detection with YOLO.
We also organise talks with professionals from the AI industry and with research staff from well-known institutes, as well as hackathons and events.
HackAI '23 happened on March 11th and 12th where we had students from all over the UK join us for a machine learning and data science Hackathon, and the top 2 solutions would be awarded with a paid summer internship from one of our sponsoring employers.
Ran a workshop on introduction to neural networks for over 100 students where we explained forward and back propagation. The workshop included introduction to useful tools in python as well as an interactive challenge for members to apply their new skills, and next steps in learning about neural networks.
A unique event where three renowned speakers shared their insights about practical AI applications in different industries. We invited IBM to talk about AI in defence, NquiringMinds to talk about cities/transportation and Filament AI to share their insights into various industries through their project work.
Our keynote speakers included:
Four-hour workshop on practical application of Azure Cognitive Services ran by University of Southampton AI society together with Microsoft Student Partners.
The purpose of this talk was to introduce some ethical norms as they relate to different aspects of Artificial Intelligence technologies.
Three different AI-related areas have been covered in brief: autonomous vehicles, smart weaponry and big data analytics.
