Application Tips

How to Submit a Successful Application to Cambridge Consultants

During a recent session with Cambridge Consultants, we discussed how to make a strong and successful application to their roles. Here’s a full guide to help you.

Application Process

  • Click through to apply from your chosen role on Gradcracker.
  • Attach your CV and complete a short application form. There is also an option to add a covering statement.

You can apply for more than one role if you are interested in multiple opportunities.

Important: Due to the high volume of applications Cambridge Consultants receives each year for their placement and graduate opportunities, they are unable to follow up for missing information. It is essential to ensure your CV/application includes all necessary details from the start.

What to Include on Your CV

Make sure your CV contains the following:

  • A-Level subjects and grades
  • University modules and your predicted or achieved grades (Note: Cambridge Consultants requires a 2:1 or above for eligibility)
  • University projects related to the role you are applying for and/or personal projects demonstrating your passion for technology
  • Software roles: Be clear about your coding skills and preferred languages. Include links to GitHub if available.
  • Design roles: Include your portfolio.

In addition, the following information can be helpful, where it’s relevant to you:

  • Work experience: Any part-time jobs, internships, and placements
  • Personal interests: Whilst it’s not a necessity, we’re always keen to hear about your interests and hobbies that may be relevant to the role

Note: While you may have heard that a CV should be kept to two pages, Cambridge Consultants is happy for your CV to be longer, provided it includes all relevant information.

Including details about the modules you have studied helps Cambridge Consultants assess if there are other opportunities in the business that might also suit your skills. They often put candidates forward for multiple roles based on this.

Tip: Avoid using ChatGPT or similar AI tools to write your CV. Your CV should be personalised and reflect your genuine skills, experiences, and passion for the company and role.

Finally, proofread carefully — spelling and grammar matter!

Covering Letter/Statement

When writing a covering statement, focus on these three key questions:

  • Why are you interested in Cambridge Consultants?
  • Why are you interested in the specific role you are applying for?
  • How do your skills and experiences align with the position?

This framework will help you create a concise and well-researched statement to complement your CV.
