Graduate Technology Strategy Consultant, Telecommunications (2027 start)

Computing, Software, Systems, Electronic, Physics, Maths.

Introduction

Are you a recent or soon-to-be graduate in physics, engineering or a related field, keen to apply your technical appreciation of physics and engineering to guide investment and business choices in the telecommunications sector? Are you fascinated by the changing way we communicate and share information and want to shape the future? Do you have a curious mindset and the drive to uncover challenges in making telecommunications technologies and processes work at a cost and scale that makes sense?

How to submit a successful application to Cambridge Consultants
Sophie talks to Lucy, Early Careers Recruiter at Cambridge Consultants about what to include on your CV and application.

If so, then this could be a great role for you!

Successful candidates can join us between May and October 2027.

There is no deadline for this role, as we recruit on a rolling basis. We encourage you to apply as soon as possible.

Who we are

Our Advisory team works at the forefront of emerging technology, helping organisations turn innovation into commercial success. Although this role will spend most of its time supporting clients in the telecommunications sector, we encourage our consultants to bring their expertise across industries, particularly in areas where communications, infrastructure and energy are becoming increasingly interconnected.

You’ll work with a wide range of organisations, from fast-growing technology pioneers and infrastructure providers to telecoms operators and investors. Together, we help clients navigate uncertainty, evaluate opportunities and make informed strategic judgements.

Projects typically involve assessing new markets, understanding competitive landscapes, shaping go-to-market strategies, supporting investment judgements and exploring future technology pathways. Our work covers cutting-edge technologies including direct-to-device services, non-terrestrial networks, high-altitude platform systems (HAPS) and emerging space-based communications.

A critical part of Cambridge Consultants, our Advisory team delivers projects to clients in the Telecommunications sector. Our clients vary from ambitious start-ups to multinationals, but all aspire to use cutting-edge telecommunication technology to transform and innovate. What we do is help them succeed.

Our work delivers insights for key business choices related to deep tech: developing go-to-market strategies, providing investment support, competitor analyses, market insights, technology road-mapping and strategic foresight. The technologies we work with are broad and include the latest advances in lunar comms, direct-to-device and high-altitude pseudo-satellites (HAPS).

The Role

The role sits within the ‘Research & Insights’ section of our Advisory group, which focuses on understanding how the near- and long-term future impacts the choices we make today. Examples include: What are the next-generation satellites services? How will terrestrial and satellite services seamlessly integrate? How can new technology connect unconnected regions while remaining commercially viable?

What you will be doing

  • Work on diverse, high-impact telecoms projects for a global client base
  • Apply diverse approaches to help clients unlock new sources of value across products, services and operations, including AI-enabled approaches
  • Collaborate with experts in our engineering, science, product design & realisation and business teams to craft strategies that unlock commercial and societal value from deep tech
  • Analyse markets, technologies and business models to help clients navigate complexity, seize opportunities and anticipate threats
  • Contribute to thought leadership on how deep tech can solve global challenges.

What you will bring

We are looking for applicants with the following traits and skills:

  • Academic background: Master’s or PhD in physics, maths, engineering, or other related disciplines
  • Business mindset: Appreciation of how tech is commercialised which may be demonstrated through experience in entrepreneurship (e.g. student business plan competitions, internships, start-ups), business or economics modules as part of an integrated Master’s, completing evening classes or a Master’s degree with a business/strategy focus following a science or technology degree
  • Analytical and creative thinking: Ability to turn complex technical concepts into actionable strategies
  • Curiosity and adaptability: A passion for learning and applying insights across multiple sectors
  • Communication skills: Confidence in engaging with technical and non-technical stakeholders and crafting compelling narratives
