The RF Systems Group is responsible for delivering designs that range from small RF sub-modules through to complete wireless systems. The collaborative group works alongside other disciplines to deliver these services to clients and are therefore fortunate to work closely with a wide range of groups across the company.
How to submit a successful application to Cambridge Consultants
Sophie talks to Lucy, Early Careers Recruiter at Cambridge Consultants about what to include on your CV and application.
Cambridge Consultants has deep expertise in wireless communication technologies, with one of the largest independent wireless development teams in the world. We work across the entire wireless landscape – from high-volume consumer applications such as portable internet-based devices, through to professional high-performance systems such as the air traffic control radios used to govern the US airspace.
The markets that we address include telecommunications, healthcare, industrial, satellite, consumer and automotive. This breadth of wireless activity provides tremendous variety to our team.
Successful candidates can join us between May and October 2027.
There is no deadline for this role, as we recruit on a rolling basis. Once the position is filled, we will close the advert. We encourage you to apply as soon as possible.
What we can offer
As an RF Engineer, with support from your mentors and peers, you will participate in the development of new ground-breaking wireless products, from initial concept through to product specification and verification. The role involves contributing to RF systems design, board-level RF circuit design and design validation of our clients’ products.
You will have the opportunity to work on ground-breaking wireless designs, for example:
Developing a novel air-interface and bespoke communication systems for the Ocado Smart Platform controlling hundreds of robots in grocery distribution centres
Prototyping the world’s largest commercial airborne antenna to deliver superfast 5G to every corner of the globe
Developing the Iridium Extreme satellite phone, the first truly-global ‘push-to-talk’ mobile communications system
Prepare RF systems specifications for wireless systems, under supervision
Use simulation tools such as HFSS, Microwave Office, CST and MATLAB to develop PCB and antenna design solutions
Participate in the regulatory approval and/or field based design validation of our clients’ products
Where appropriate, create novel design solutions that will be of particular interest to our clients
As required, present designs, results and conclusions and produce high quality documentation for clients
Work as part of a close-knit, multi-disciplinary project team focused on delivering design solutions to our clients
As a graduate you will be supported with specific training and mentoring and as your experience develops, you will have the opportunity take on further responsibilities.
What you can bring
A good degree in a relevant field such as Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a related discipline.
Experience gained through university, work, or personal projects in at least three of the following areas — and enthusiasm to learn about the others:
Electronics hardware design
Radio frequency and Microwave/mmWave systems design
RF/Microwave component design
Use of RF test and measurement equipment for component and systems verification – Antenna design and measurement – Wireless communications network link budget and propagation analysis
Strong communication skills, an inquisitive mindset, attention to detail, and a genuine interest in technology.
In addition, experience in any of the following areas would be advantageous (though not essential):
Programming in Python for test automation
Signal processing
