Job Description

Fire engineers fundamentally shape the buildings in which people work, live and play. Trigon work with the best clients, on outstanding projects, to help solve some of the most complex problems in the built environment. Our role is to support developers, architects and engineers, and other fire safety professionals, to design and maintain innovative, sustainable and safe buildings.

We are looking for an individual who has a passion for buildings, problem solving and a commitment to quality, to join us in either our London, Manchester, Birmingham or Edinburgh Office.

Your development is an important part of our business culture, you will have the chance to develop, learn, and be mentored by a Chartered Engineer and work closely with our company Directors and wider team. We actively encourage and support all our Fire Engineers in attaining their Chartered Engineer status – and we want our graduates of today to become our Directors of the future.

The Role

As a Graduate Fire Engineer, you will be part of a team inspired to make a difference.

You will be responsible for developing fire safety strategies, reports, technical notes, letters, sketches and all the necessary supporting calculations, using the latest computer modelling software.

You will have the opportunity to undertake calculations for smoke and temperature spread, as well as more complex smoke and evacuation modelling (hand calculations, zone modelling, Computational Fluid Dynamics simulations), detailed fire dynamics and structural assessments.

You will review building designs and design elements to assess compliance whilst also designing fire solutions as part of the overall design team, alongside the client, architect and Statutory Authorities.

You will have a client facing role, including attending meetings with clients, design teams and Statutory Authorities, and you will use your knowledge of fire engineering and Building Regulations to support projects in a variety of sectors.

You will join our graduate training programme, and attend our weekly training sessions, regular training days and attend external training opportunities. You will be provided with a highly experienced mentor to provide a platform for 1:1 support, to shape their individual career plan and support their individual training and development.

Qualifications and Attributes

You will be expected to:

  • Be educated to degree level in a relevant engineering or physical science discipline.
  • Be curious, logical, driven to improve your knowledge and skills, and have a particular aptitude for problem solving.
  • Have the ability to work independently or as part of a team on multiple projects with other professionals.
  • Have strong organisational and time-management skills.
  • Have excellent grammar, use of the English language, and have strong communication skills (both orally and written).
  • IT literate, although specialist fire software training will be given.
  • A previous placement or work experience in a similar field is advantageous but not necessary.
