Our Platinum Group Metal Services Sector has a new opportunity for a Development Chemist based in Royston. In this role you will contribute to the development of novel PGM refining processes, to unlock critical recycling capability for JM as part of an exciting, business critical and highly visible project, supporting JM’s clean-energy businesses in making the most of their materials and reducing their environmental footprint.

Your responsibilities:

  • Evaluate hydrometallurgical technologies (e.g. solid phase extraction) for the recovery and purification of platinum group metals. 
  • Be data driven, using sound statistical and analytical knowledge and techniques to inform the decision- making process and determine progress and next steps. 
  • Demonstrates a commitment to sustainability and contributes to sustainable practises to both inform process design/concept selection and during their day-to-day duties. 
  • Develop expertise in PGM refining and become the go-to expert for their process. 
  • If successful, work with process engineers to develop flowsheets and P&IDs for the process. 
  • Contribute to technology transfer between the development and engineering teams, and support relevant engineering and process safety studies, e.g. HAZ1-6. 

Requirements for the role:

  • Degree level qualification in Chemistry or a relevant Scientific subject 
  • Knowledge of hydrometallurgical separation and purification techniques and / or knowledge of Platinum 
  • Group Chemistry, particularly Pt, Ir and Ru is highly desirable. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain collaborative working 
  • relationships. 
  • Be self-motivated with strong problem-solving skills and excellent attention to technical detail. 
  • Commitment to product quality and delivery for internal and external customers while working to tight deadlines. 
  • Excellent project management skills and an ability to work in an environment that necessitates an agile approach to project delivery.
