What they enjoy most about AE: Working within a relatively small company there is plenty of opportunity to take on significant responsibility very quickly, this is not something to be perturbed by however as you will always find someone willing to spend time with you to guide through any difficulties. If you are looking for a challenge and somewhere that is going to nourish your development then I couldn’t recommend Aquaterra Energy more.
Progression from Graduate to where they are now: I began my career at Aquaterra Energy on a two‑year graduate rotation, working across several departments and gaining exposure to a wide range of engineering disciplines. Much of my early experience centred around minimum facility platform engineering and fabrication, including extensive time spent on site, where I developed a strong practical understanding of how our designs are delivered in the real world.
After completing the programme, I moved into the Well Access department as a Project Engineer. This role gave me significant offshore exposure and the chance to take on increasingly complex technical and operational challenges, whilst also getting great exposure to the commercial aspects of delivering projects. Over time, I progressed through the team, delivering numerous multi-million-pound projects across the globe.
Today, I lead the Well Access Business Unit. I continue to oversee the delivery of subsea drilling risers while also driving our expansion into completion and workover riser systems and leading the strategic development of intellectual property in this space. My journey reflects the genuine progression opportunities available to graduates at Aquaterra Energy - where early hands‑on experience and long‑term support can take you from the graduate scheme to leading a business unit.
Extra information: Travel is part and parcel of the oil and gas industry, depending on which department you choose to join within the company you can be almost certain of some opportunity to do so. Personally I have spent a significant amount of time, approximately 6 months, working in Egypt during my first three years with Aquaterra Energy, an experience that was not only exciting but has also changed my outlook on the world quite considerably.
If you are looking to further your career via the route of Chartership you will find Aquaterra Energy very supportive, that said you won’t be forced through the process as you might working in some companies, it is very much a self-driven exercise but with excellent support available if requested.
