Aircraft Fitter

What is your role at Airbus?

I work as an aircraft fitter on the A320 Family wing production line. My job consists of drilling, fettling, caging and bolting a fibreglass panel onto a preset structure on the outboard wing.

What is the best part of your job?

What I love the most is teamwork. We work together in my section to make sure our product is always delivered on time to the highest quality. Also, I think that as aircraft fitters we play a fundamental role at Airbus. We manufacture the product and ensure it meets the highest quality standards. We all play a crucial part in guaranteeing the reliability and safety of the wings Broughton delivers, in order to protect Airbus’ reputation.

What excites you most about the future of aviation?

I’d like to think that aviation has no boundaries, for example aircraft that are powered by hydrogen, or run on hybrid power, or are even fully electric. The aviation industry is sometimes attacked for its climate impact. Hopefully new technologies can mitigate this perception.

What makes you proud about being part of Airbus?

Forward-looking, innovative projects such as Wing of Tomorrow make me proud! It’s a project I’d love to be a part of as I think this will change the industry completely. It’s amazing to be able to contribute to changing how people travel around the world.

What is your favourite aircraft?

Probably the Beluga! I think it’s so impressive how it can transport all that level of cargo and I like its quirky design.
