UK National Sustainability Officer Placement (12.5 months)

We are a passionate community driving the development of Airbus’s company-wide Sustainability strategy across all UK sites and divisions. Our team translates high-level corporate strategy into tangible operational plans, focusing on reducing our environmental footprint (energy, water, waste), increasing our natural capital and building an ethical and responsible corporate culture. 

What makes our team exciting is our unique reach: we collaborate transnationally with our Headquarters in Toulouse and interface directly with local functions, NGOs, and executive management. You will be joining a team where your work directly impacts our long-term social value and environmental responsibilities, tackling some of the aviation industry's greatest modern challenges. 

What you will be doing:

As the UK National Sustainability Officer Intern, you will gain a comprehensive overview of sustainability within a global aerospace leader. Your tasks will be highly varied, giving you the space to take proactive ownership of high-profile projects and develop into a confident professional.

On a ‘typical’ day, you can expect to:

• Project manage major initiatives: take a key leadership role in executing large-scale events, such as our high-stakes sustainability week, managing our network of sustainability ambassadors or deliver introductory sessions to our new early careers intakes;
• Shape social value strategy: conduct research into UK societal needs and help shape our long-term UK social value strategy by connecting with senior Airbus stakeholders and external charities and NGOs;
• Deliver compelling communications: act as a confident voice for our function by facilitating panels and presenting core sustainability concepts to diverse audiences, ranging from finance communities to over 300+ early-career peers;
• Champion cultural change: collaborate with and support our volunteers teams, such as our employee-led biodiversity and commuting groups, to embed corporate values across the wider organisational culture;
• Provide strategic thought leadership: quickly grasp and synthesize complex socio-environmental concepts to provide insights on issues like material extraction and community impact.

Skills you will develop:

• End-to-end project management and navigating changing requirements under pressure;
• Proficient oral and written communication skills across multi-functional networks;
• Strategic thinking and the ability to confidently interface with executive management;
• Cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management in a transnational setting.

Requirements:

Our placements are open to Undergraduates only. Therefore it is mandatory for candidates to be an undergraduate for the whole duration of the placement. Please inform your graduation date on your application.

Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate the following:

• Studying toward an undergraduate degree in the following fields: Sustainability, Environment, Geography, International or related socio-environmental areas will be preferred;
• Have experience in project management and navigating changing requirements under pressure;
• Proficient oral and written communication;
• Strategic thinking;
• Can efficiently collaborate and manage stakeholders;
• Communicate about sustainability;
• Participate or deliver sustainability projects.

SECURITY CLEARANCE: You will be subject to a BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) check. You may also need to gain UK SC-level Security Clearance or Export Control, depending on the role.
