3M is seeking a Graduate Project Engineer to join our UK&I Project Engineering Organisation based at Loughborough, Leicestershire.

Location – 3M Loughborough, Healthcare manufacturing facility.

Overall Mission

3M UK&I Project Engineering lead all CAPEX projects in support of 9 Manufacturing sites and 9 Satellite sites.

Primary products manufactured in the UK&I are Healthcare, Industrial and Personal Safety.

CAPEX spend resourced by the UK&I team is approximately $30 million per year (recent projects have been in the ~$20-25 million range).
CAPEX projects drivers range from Compliance, Quality, New Product Introduction, Growth (Sales), Replacement and Cost reduction.

As a Graduate Project Engineer you will take responsibility for providing safe and compliant delivery of assigned capital projects, on time, within budget and to the agreed scope. You will lead projects at 3M Loughborough manufacturing site. There may also be a possibility to lead specific projects in Aycliffe (depending on mobility and the project portfolio needs).

Job Responsibilities

Leadership of engineering capital projects through multi-disciplinary teams ($5k – $500k). Projects are typically manufacturing/automation process technology biased.

Roles and Responsibilities include:

  • Capital project definition
  • Equipment specification (URS)
  • Design Review (DQ) process
  • Creating and leading project teams - edfining roles and responsibilities
  • Project risk management
  • Sourcing strategy & Vendor selection
  • Cost estimating/control
  • Schedule generation/adherence
  • Equipment acceptance testing (FAT/SAT)
  • Report writing/presenting
  • Stakeholder management and communication
  • Installation/Commissioning
  • Equipment validation (IQ/OQ)
  • Handover and post-completion audit.

Person Profile

Requirements:
  • Right to live and work in the UK
  • Predicted or achieved a minimum 2:1 degree in an Engineering Discipline;
    • Electrical/controls
    • Mechanical/manufacturing
  • 120 UCAS points at A-Level (or equivalent qualification) including at least one STEM subject.
  • Valid UK driving licence is preferred but not essential.
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Good engineering/technical knowledge
  • Competent PC user
  • Good problem solver
  • Data handling and processing
  • Previous experience within a manufacturing environment is desired but not essential
  • Ability to develop lead cross-functional project teams.

  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work at all levels of the organisation
  • Highly motivated with the drive & energy to lead and influence change
  • Good team player able to work well with & influence others
