We do not offer Summer Internships for first year undergraduate students. However, we do offer a week Spring Insight programme which provides you with an understanding of how Barclays operates and where you might fit in. At the end of our Spring Insight programmes there’s an opportunity for you to be fast tracked for one of our Summer Internship opportunities in your second year.
Yes providing you are able to produce appropriate receipts, we will reimburse your travel expenses. We also expect your travel to be booked as soon as you receive your invitation and we would always expect you to travel in economy/standard class.
Unfortunately we can't visit every campus. If we don’t visit your college or university, you can still apply and be considered. All applications we receive are considered against the same criteria and we're proud of the huge diversity of institutions we recruit from.
We recruit from a diverse range of institutions.
We’re looking for strong achievements, but we also know that sometimes personal circumstances make that so much harder. If you’d like us to view your achievements in a particular context, we’ve introduced a section where you can alert us to any mitigating circumstances that you may have experienced. We don't set standard specific grade criteria as we consider all applications on merit via contextualised screening. Once you have selected your preferred role on the application form, we will make it clear if there are any specific eligibility criteria (i.e. language requirements).
You should, however, check that you are applying to the right vacancy for your academic background: Associates need to have a period of significant work experience; Quantitative Associates need to have a PhD or similar; and Analysts need at least a Bachelors degree or equivalent. For our undergraduate and graduate opportunities you'll need to be either studying towards a degree (Internships) or have fully completed a degree (Graduate vacancies) – or be holding a recognised degree equivalent.
Our application process is very immersive & interactive. We therefore recommend you apply with a desktop computer instead of a mobile device.
Although we have official deadlines, we recruit on a rolling basis and fill vacancies on a first come first served basis so you should apply as soon as possible. Review the respective opportunity pages for the application deadline.
With the exception of our Off-Cycle Internships and Part-Time Coder positions which offer flexible start dates, all our programmes have fixed start dates.
Applications should only be made for the full-time, internships and Spring Insight intakes if you're committed to starting the programme in that year. Only in exceptional circumstances do we defer offers.
If you have a Masters or PhD degree you're still eligible to apply for our graduate scheme but you will not gain any additional benefits or responsibilities. Only relevant Masters or PhD degree disciplines will be considered for one of the Associate or Quantitative Associate level vacancies.
Barclays will ask you about your right to work status during the graduate programme recruitment process. Candidates who do not have a current right to work in the UK or who will require visa sponsorship from Barclays are not precluded from applying to graduate opportunities. However, Barclays may take your right to work status into consideration depending on the availability of candidates with the right to work in the UK.
