Hints & Tips

We know the application process can seem a bit daunting at first. But we want you to succeed just as much as you do. So here are a few hints and tips to help you put your best foot forward.

Advice from our Technology Recruiter

Read below for some top tips and advice from Anne-Marie, Technology Recruiter.

Research will speak volumes in your application.

1. Network, network, network

Take full advantage of your campus careers events. Come and chat to us, learn about all the different opportunities and ask lots of questions. What better way to leave a great first impression?

2. Don’t be afraid to fail

If you don’t get offered the job, try not to be too disheartened. Treat every interview or assessment day as a learning experience and be confident in your abilities. Take our feedback on board and come back stronger than ever.

3. Do your homework

Put some time aside to properly research us. It really does speak volumes in your application, and will make you more focused and prepared for any questions we may ask.

4. Think about the bigger picture

Make sure we’re absolutely right for you. Look at our values – do they resonate with you? What about our training, development and further career opportunities? Do any of our internal networks interest you?

5. Start now

It’s never too early to start looking at our opportunities. We have Spring Week for first year students, the Summer Internship for penultimate year students and our Graduate Programme for those who’ve just finished studying.

We want to know what drives you.

How to prepare

Read below to find out how you can prepare for Barclays' recruitment process.

Think about what drives you

Remember our interviews are strengths-based. Rather than just asking what you’ve done, we want to know what you love to do and what drives you – even if you haven’t had much experience of it. So before your interviews, think about what you really enjoy doing, and what you’re like at your best.

Be ready for a range of questions

At your strengths-based interview, we’ll ask you a wide variety of question types, some of them a little different from what you might have found elsewhere. Rather than being asked to speak at length on only a handful of questions, expect a faster pace with us – with more quick-fire questions and the chance to express how you feel about different tasks and activities.

Listen to your brief

There are no hidden surprises to our exercises. At every step, from the first to the final stage, you’ll have a very clear brief to help you. Pay attention here, and you’ll find the perfect guidance to get started, even if you don’t have experience of the task.

Show us the real you

Both your interview and the Barclays Business Meeting are a chance to get to know more about the company and the role. If you enjoy the experience, then chances are you’ll also enjoy the role with us. At the same time, if you relax and show us what motivates you, it helps us to work out where you’d be best suited.
