James Cooper

Acoustic Engineer

"I enjoyed working within the team and felt respected and appreciated. The experience and the relationships I made during my placements made a position at Hoare Lea an obvious choice."

What was your route to becoming an engineer?

I studied for a specialist degree in acoustical engineering at the University of Southampton (MEng). During the course I was required to complete a certain number of relevant, professional placements. I undertook summer placement work each year (three placements in total) with Hoare Lea’s acoustics group in Bristol. After graduation, thanks to the reputation and relationships I had made during my placement, I was offered the opportunity to interview for a full time position.

Why did you choose to join Hoare Lea?

Through my placements, I got to know Hoare Lea’s friendly and professional work environment. I enjoyed working within the team and felt respected and appreciated. The experience and the relationships I made during my placements made a position at Hoare Lea an obvious choice.

What have you learnt from working at Hoare Lea?

I have learnt how to use a lot of specialist software packages for in-depth acoustic modelling.
