At Caterpillar, We Build What Matters

It's your career. Make it matter. At Caterpillar, you build what matters – whether it’s the career you want, crucial work skills, strong relationships or new digital technologies.

What do we do?

Caterpillar Leicester is part of the Building Construction Products (BCP) division, manufacturing a range of world class Backhoe Loaders (BHL) and Compact Wheel Loaders (CWL), as part of the wider BCP range. Products that are reliable, cost effective, versatile, and adaptable.

Each of the product families has several machine models with differing power, capabilities, and features. Leicester is more than just a production facility - it is a full product development centre with global responsibility for its products.

Our development facilities include: Advanced 3D CAD systems on-line to other Caterpillar engineering resource centres around the world, full product prototyping and test capabilities, and, through the international network, access to some of the most advanced research and development facilities in the world.

This year we are pleased to be able to offer several student positions within the department including 4 Graduate opportunities.

What experiences can we offer you?

From day one, you’re set up to thrive at Caterpillar: helpful training, relatable mentors, global experience, competitive salary package, work-life balance, and the growth opportunities you expect with a Fortune 100 company.

You power our success, and we are committed to empowering yours. After all, when your work can impact the entire world, it’s important to do work that matters.

As a Graduate Trainee, you will be part of a 2-year Graduate Development program, allowing you to rotate within Manufacturing Engineering and within other related teams to build core Engineering skills and product knowledge.

As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will assist in the creation, development, and documentation of new processes to optimise safety and efficiency in line with Caterpillar Production System guiding principles, across the product range. This will include supporting the Production Assembly or Logistics teams for products built at Building Construction Products, Leicester.

As a Manufacturing Engineering Graduate your responsibilities could include-

  • Create and review risk assessments to drive safety improvements in new and current processes
  • Use CAD software to design new tooling and equipment, and develop facility layouts
  • Liaise with suppliers to procure new or replacement tooling which includes jigs and fixtures
  • Problem solving and continuous improvement activities in the current production environment
  • Support resolution of quality issues using 6 Sigma tools, including collaboration with other departments
  • Use analytics and take the vast quantity of data we record every day and interrogate it for insights providing visual data driven dashboards.
  • Process Efficiency improvements, using lean methodology and processes to improve material flow throughout the facility, reducing waste and improving throughput
  • Liaise with other teams and provide feedback and support
  • Adhere to the company's Health and Safety policy and safe working practices
  • Adhere to Caterpillar's Values in Action: Integrity, Commitment, Excellence, Teamwork, & Sustainability

We hold a Meet and Greet day for all new UK Graduate students to provide you with an opportunity to meet fellow new starters across the UK before you start.

What happens after the graduate scheme?
