Meet our People

Emily, Year in Industry Placement Student – Mechanical Engineering

“My typical day involves a few meetings about my current projects, then I head down to the lab to check or start some experiments and testing, followed by some data analysis. From the first week my team involved me in real problems that they were working on. They encouraged me to contribute and help them solve problems, they never treat me as ‘just a student’. I find the culture to be very welcoming, supportive and forward-thinking. I also get to mix with other students and graduates in the company therefore getting exposure to other aspects of the business."

Riya, Year in Industry Placement Student – IT Security

“I investigate suspicious emails using a variety of different security tools. I really enjoyed delivering training sessions to our global teams on email security and phishing, the feedback I received was very positive which this has built my confidence in presenting to larger audiences. Different networking opportunities have enabled me to meet new people outside department, finding out more about their roles. I find the Edwards culture very connected where all employees are accepted and valued. It’s also progressive, we are constantly growing, innovating, and trying new things to grow and thrive."

 Adam, Graduate – Mechanical Engineering

"As a graduate I rotate around different departments and get to see a huge variety of different projects! These have included creating theoretical models of pump shafts, data management, manufacturing and test rigs, experimenting on water pumps and designing new parts for manufacture. The projects have been both large scale (where I have a more specific task) to smaller scale projects (where I have had more ownership and responsibility). There has been a blend of design alongside engineers and testing with the shop floor. It’s been a great place to discover what kind of engineer I want to be!"

Andrew, Graduate – IT & Business Process Analyst

“A typical day for me starts with a good cup of coffee and a croissant! My day is usually a mix of Teams calls as well as face to face meetings, planning time and data analysis, depending on which stage of the project I’m on. The projects you work on are ‘real’ projects that impact the business and the people. The most enjoyable project I’ve worked on so far involved the roll out of a training hub for all SAP users within the company which involved engaging with colleagues around the world. It was interesting to see how different countries and cultures approach training and work."

Sam, Graduate – Physics

"I was offered a place on the Science and Engineering programme after completing my Year in Industry with the Edwards. The best part of my role is seeing new technology that I’ve worked on, designed or helped to develop being adopted by industry. My first project involved working on technology that the company had not previously explored and so it was very exciting to know I was making cutting-edge developments that hadn’t been done before!"

Elin, Graduate – Mechanical Engineering

“My favourite part of my job is the variety of things I get to do! My days are always different, sometimes I’m building pumps to ship for a customer to evaluate an improvement, other times I’m doing thermal mapping to diagnose an issue, or creating a new drawing to be sent to suppliers. My team are always incredibly supportive and encourage me to work through problems on my own by giving suggestions for how to approach the issue. I’m not just a ‘graduate’ who needs to be looked after but a valued part of the team.”
