What attracted you to apply for a role with us?

What attracted me to Mott MacDonald was their Code and PRIDE values - Progress, Respect, Integrity, Drive and Excellence. Respect and Integrity are the two that both really stood out to me because Mott MacDonald set out clearly their commitment to act with integrity and their expectations of their employees. This means I work in an environment that is inclusive, safe and enables me to perform at my best.

What are the three things that make you look forward to coming into work each day?

  • The People. Whether it's the team I work closely with or the wider committee, the environment is incredibly supportive. Everyone strives to sharpen one another, not just as engineers, but as individuals with a collaborative spirit fostering continuous growth and development.
  • The Projects: The infrastructure projects I contribute to shape the way people experience cities, utilize resources, and enjoy essential amenities. It is immensely fulfilling to know that my efforts directly influence and improve the lives of others.
  • Global Reach: As someone who was born and raised in Zimbabwe, having the opportunity to work on projects in Africa holds a special significance as I can have a substantial impact not only within my local community but also across the African continent. The ability to contribute to meaningful change on both a local and global scale is truly rewarding.

What’s your team at Mott MacDonald like?

My team embodies diversity, with a wide range of skills being spread across various locations meaning we can travel and collaborate effectively. We foster a supportive and inclusive environment where socialising is an integral part of our team culture. This provides an ideal setting for personal and professional growth, allowing us to thrive as engineers. In our team, we appreciate the diverse perspectives and experiences each member brings to the table. We leverage our varied skills to tackle challenges collectively, constantly learning from one another. Together, we create a dynamic and nurturing atmosphere that fuels our development and success.

What has been your proudest achievement to date?

My proudest moment was being a part of a project team that built a suspended footbridge for the local community in Nkegete, Rwanda. We worked with Bridges to Prosperity, a charity dedicated to reducing rural isolation by providing safe access to education, medical facilities, and markets through footbridges. Our team constructed a Nkgete Trailbridge, spanning 77 meters over the Gasayo River and providing safe access to over 14,00 people in the community. The bridge looks to increase school enrolment, access to healthcare, local business, and women employed in the local communities.

One of the most rewarding aspects of the project was the opportunity to transfer our skills to the local community, providing employment opportunities through the charity and ensuring that the community would have the knowledge and skills to maintain the bridge for years to come. Being part of this project was a truly life-changing experience, and I am proud to have contributed to such a meaningful cause.
