I attended a presentation that was delivered at my university where current placement students were talking about their experiences at Cummins. I was intrigued as the placement was based around what you wanted to do and learn so you could develop your skills also find out which areas of work interested you most. This made me want to apply to Cummins as I felt I fit in with the company’s culture and I would learn lots during my time there.
The culture at Cummins is greatly about inclusion and team work, everyone is always offering to help each other out and become better engineers. Even though I was working remotely the amount of help and support I received was amazing and I feel this has helped me to get the most out of my placement.
I have had lots of opportunities to expand my technical knowledge and also develop many of my soft skills. I have become more competent with software such as Matlab as I needed it to complete certain work tasks. I also often present my work to a cross-functional forum and hearing different people’s perspectives on my work has greatly improved my knowledge and my approach to tasks.
I have faced lots of challenges with the work tasks I was assigned but I always had someone in my team who was able to help me out if I got stuck. It was great being challenged in this way as I was really able to expand my knowledge and get a real experience working in industry.
